Hi! I'm the TileTally Assistant 👋 Ask me anything about challenges, syncing, tiles or your account.

FAQ

Which activities count toward a challenge?

It depends on the challenge type. Cycling challenges count Ride, Road Cycling, Gravel Ride and Mountain Bike Ride. Running challenges count Run, Trail Run and Virtual Run. Walking challenges count Walk and Hike. Ski challenges count Alpine Ski only.

How often does TileTally sync with Strava?

New activities sync automatically within a few minutes via Strava's webhook — no manual action needed. You can also hit the sync button on your progress page to force a full re-sync of your historic activities.

Does a tile count if I only pass through the edge?

Yes. A tile is marked as conquered as soon as your GPS track crosses its boundary — you don't need to ride or run through the centre.

Why does my Strava activity count differ from TileTally?

Only activities with a GPS route are stored. Indoor rides, treadmill runs and manually entered activities without a map are skipped — they can't contribute to tile detection.

Can I join more than one challenge?

Absolutely. Join as many challenges as you like. Your progress is tracked independently per challenge, each with its own leaderboard.

Why is a tile not showing as conquered after my activity?

Check that your Strava activity has a GPS route. Also make sure the activity type matches the challenge (e.g. a Walk won't count toward a cycling challenge). If everything looks correct, use the sync button to trigger a re-check.

How do I request a new challenge?

Go to the Challenges page and tap 'Missing a challenge?' at the bottom. Fill in the form and we'll consider it for a future release.

Is TileTally free?

Yes, completely free for participants. Connect your Strava account and start competing straight away.

Can my company sponsor a challenge?

Yes! HiCaBa B.V. offers sponsored challenges for companies who want to engage active communities. Get in touch via [email protected] to discuss options.

Privacy Policy

HiCaBa B.V. · GDPR & AVG compliant · Last updated April 2026

Who is responsible for your data?

HiCaBa B.V. is the data controller for all personal data processed through TileTally. HiCaBa B.V. is registered in the Netherlands and based in Amstelveen. We operate in full compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR / EU 2016/679) and the Dutch implementation thereof (AVG — Algemene Verordening Gegevensbescherming).

Which countries does this policy cover?

The GDPR applies uniformly across all EU and EEA member states. Users from Belgium, Germany, France and all other EU/EEA countries are fully covered by this policy without any additional steps. Users based in the United Kingdom are covered by UK GDPR (retained in UK law via the Data Protection Act 2018), which is substantially identical to EU GDPR. Users from outside the EU/EEA/UK benefit from the same protections because HiCaBa B.V. is established in the EU.

What data do we collect?

We collect only the data necessary to provide the service: your Strava profile (name, profile photo), activity GPS routes, sport types and start dates. We also collect your email address, which you provide during onboarding. Your email is used to send challenge updates, progress reports and, where you have consented, marketing messages. You can update your email preferences at any time in the My Account section.

Legal basis for processing

We process your Strava data on the basis of legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) — specifically to provide the geo-challenge service you have signed up for. We process your email address on the basis of your explicit consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), given when you connect your Strava account and provide your email. You may withdraw consent for marketing messages at any time in the My Account section.

Data retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account via the My Account section, all personal data is removed immediately. Anonymised, aggregated statistics (e.g. total number of participants) may be retained indefinitely.

Your rights

Under GDPR and UK GDPR you have the right to access, correct, port or delete your personal data at any time. You also have the right to object to processing. You can delete your account and all associated data directly in the My Account section. For other requests (data export, objection to processing) contact us at [email protected].

Right to complain to your local authority

You may lodge a complaint with the data protection authority in your country of residence. Examples: Netherlands — Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens (autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl) · Belgium — Gegevensbeschermingsautoriteit (gegevensbeschermingsautoriteit.be) · Germany — your state Datenschutzbehörde · France — CNIL (cnil.fr) · United Kingdom — ICO (ico.org.uk).
